As I was developing the FootRest Pillow a whole team developed around me, right in our region of Northern NY. Initially I was tinkering with different materials for padding that would help me craft a Pillow to strectch the sole of my foot and alleviate the pain that plantar fasciitis was afflicting. I tried wool (I raised sheep for years and had a lot up In my shed) and then I tried cotton batting from my wife’s quilting activities. But nothing quite worked until I found the medical foam that now makes up the pillow insert. Once I had that, I really got relief and realized I was onto something. Right at that time I happened to see an article about Clarkson University’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation center, and the work they were doing helping inventors bring their products to market. I live an hour and a half from there, so i went in and showed them my prototypes and they accepted me into the program. Next we began looking for a shop to sew our pillowcases, and Matt at Clarkson U knew about an Arc workshop in Herkimer, NY about an hour away that specialized in sewing. Soon, Scott at The Arc Herkimer Industries had us making pillowcases by the dozen. And the workers there can pack and ship cases as well. Then it all came full circle when a contact at Kinney Drug Company, a Northern NY pharmacy and health store, got me in touch with the marketing supervisor at Kinney headquarters and now our pillows are in their stores as well as here on the website. I really think this pillow will be a blessing to the user and I look forward to what is going to happen as time goes on and the word gets out!
It’s a Regional Effort!
